چکیده

Atmospheric effects on radio frequency transmissions have been studied extensively since the advent of radio usage in military applications, yet the effects on shorter range transmissions have been less well covered. This study attempts to find correlations between atmospheric conditions and the transmission efficiency of IEEE 802.11g, using HTTP as the high level transport mechanism. This study examines the effects of atmospherics on application layer protocol performance. Prior work on this topic concentrates on the effect of weather conditions on signal strength. However, signal strength itself may not be the best predictor of application layer performance.

Study of Sea Level Variations during Passage of Meteorological Cyclones over the Qeshm Channel

The main purpose of this study is the survey of the atmospheric low pressure effects at sea level oscillations in the Qeshm Channel. For this purpose, the curves of the pressure on the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea, during the passing of the atmospheric low pressure system, are extracted across the region. During the time of occurrence of these events, sea level oscillations in the coastal areas of...

Analyzing the basic performance of IEEE802.11g/n

This paper describes a new standardization effort – IEEE 802.11n, and its comparison with legacy standard. In this paper we present the results of a measurement campaign evaluating the performance of both standards IEEE802.11g/n. We concentrate our evaluation on wireless communication in the outdoor scenario. We found that distance, throughput and signal/noise ratio characterize the basic perfo...

Influence of atmospheric circulation patterns on dust transport during Harmattan Period in West Africa

This study has used TOMS AI as well as the reanalysis dataset of thirty-four years (1979-2012) to investigate the influence of atmospheric circulation on dust transport during the Harmattan period in West Africa, using Aerosol Index (AI) data, obtained from various satellite sensors. Changes in Inter-Tropical Discontinuity (ITD), Sea Surface Temperature (SST) over the Gulf of Guinea, and North ...

Investigation of the atmospheric circulation anomalies associated with extreme rainfall events over the Coastal West Africa

This study investigates the atmospheric circulation associated with extreme rainfall events over the coastal West Africa. The rainfall data of this study were obtained from the Global Precipitation Climatology Centre (GPCC), spanning from 1981 to 2010. The atmospheric datasets were also obtained from the ERA-Interim reanalysis. The study employed the Z-Index to categorize dry and wet years into...
